Atheists ≠ Enlightened

I do not know about you, but this is driving me crazy. I am sick of people telling me that they are educated, smart and enlightened and that is why they do not believe in god, that is why they are atheists.

My biggest problem with religious people is not that they believe in a god, but it is that they are so sure that god exists, it makes my non-belief either stupid or sane. That absolute certainty drives me crazy. How can you be so sure that god exists if I do not? Are you smarter than me? Why are you in the loop when it comes to this issue and I am not? Is there a special ceremony that I have to go through to be as sure as you are there is a god?

I am sorry but no, none of the above applies. You are not smarter than me. I am not missing anything physically or mentally. And I certainly have spent more time investigating the issue of religion before I turned 25 than most people do in a lifetime.

Which brings me to my next point, how can people know for sure there is no god? I do not, so why do you? If you are an atheist who believes for sure that there is no god (some atheists claim to not be sure, implicit vs. explicit) then you are as ignorant as a religious person who claims that for sure there is a god.

Do not look down on me because I have not jumped the gun and presumed my knowledge of the whole universe. Just because you talk to someone on a daily basis, it does not mean they exist and just because that someone does not talk back to you, it does not mean they do not exist.
